We can discuss your move as two separate removal stages: collection and unloading into storage, followed by a further loading and delivery on your confirmed date. This avoids assuming that waiting time, vehicle hire or redelivery is included in a single booking. What can you store?

Self storage is commonly suitable for boxed household contents, sofas and armchairs, dismantled beds, wardrobes, dining furniture, office desks, document boxes and other possessions that are permitted under the storage company's terms. The right size depends on the overall volume and how safely the items can be stacked.

• Whole-house contents: temporary storage between sale and purchase, or while building works are carried out.
• Downsizing: furniture you are keeping while deciding what will fit in a smaller property.
• Renovation: emptying rooms for plastering, flooring, rewiring or decorating.

Do not assume the storage company will accept fuels, gas cylinders, paint solvents, food, damp furniture, hazardous materials or any item restricted by its agreement. Ask the storage operator before bringing unusual belongings to the premises.

Protecting furniture before it goes into storage

Items may stay inside a unit for weeks or months, so preparation matters. We can discuss wrapping upholstered furniture, protecting vulnerable edges and corners, taking down suitable bed frames and tables, and using good-quality boxes rather than overfilled bags. Delicate surfaces and antiques may need individual wrapping or specialist precautions.

Use clean, dry boxes and label them clearly on more than one side. Put heavier contents in small cartons, protect fragile crockery and glass, and keep important documents, medication and valuables separately. Ask about ventilation, moisture, stacking limits and whether your unit suits items sensitive to heat or humidity.

How collection and redelivery can work

1. Survey the move: send the collection postcode, photographs or a video of your belongings, including awkward furniture and access routes.
2. Choose your unit: discuss unit sizes and access with Safestore; reserve the unit directly once you're happy with their terms.
3. Arrange transport: agree the collection date, protective materials, vehicle access and the booked storage unit details with Ravenhill Removals.
4. Load into storage: agree whether the team will unload into the room and how access and keyholder arrangements will be managed.
5. Book redelivery: once your new address and dates are confirmed, request a separate quotation or confirm the agreed return-delivery arrangement.

If access to the stored goods is important during the storage period, consider leaving a sensible aisle rather than packing a unit to its absolute capacity. That may change the size of room you need.

Storage costs, insurance and who is responsible

The total cost usually has distinct components: removal to storage, unit rental and any protection or insurance requirements, and redelivery. Extra packing, dismantling, special handling, extra visits and unexpected waiting may also affect the quote. We will explain the work we are pricing; Safestore determines its own current storage rates, conditions and available units.

Ask the storage provider about cover for goods left in its facility, applicable exclusions, excesses, security and restricted items. Removals goods-in-transit cover should not be assumed to replace storage cover. Keep a record of your inventory and which party is responsible at each stage.
